When is music more than audition? This panel brings together perspectives from Music Information Retrieval (MIR), music cognition, and crossmodal perception to explore how information from other sensory modalities might complement audio-based representations in MIR and, conversely, whether MIR may provide novel tools for investigating the complex relationships between musical and non-musical sensory information. Our speakers will foster an interdisciplinary discussion on how moving beyond audition may broaden our understanding of music and open new directions for Music Information Retrieval.
